Francis Bacon is a cornerstone of the English Renaissance (one of my favourite cultural epochs) and marks him as the father of empiricism. He pushed for a methodical, observation-driven approach to knowledge at a time when dogma and tradition dominated. Without him, modern science and rational inquiry would have taken a very different path.

My reflections: This is an important book, but not always easy or exciting to read. The ideas are more influential than the text itself. Bacon insists that we must build knowledge from experience, not authority, a principle that transformed science and society.

As Bacon argued that we must see the world as it is, not as we are told it is, we too must observe the lived realities of our communities rather than accept the narratives imposed by institutions that profit from our dependence. Bacon’s call for new methods is our call for new structures: cooperative, empirical, and grounded in what people truly need.
